Accessibility Awareness Week spotlight: Services for Students with Disabilities

From: Services for Students with Disabilities

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) serves students who have or think they may have disabilities. SSD strives to create an accessible and inclusive campus community by removing disability-related barriers in the learning, living, and dining environments. They collaborate with campus partners to meet the individualized access needs of disabled students. SSD supports success through the promotion of student learning and the development of advocacy skills.

SSD is located in Suite 310 on the third floor of Lavery Hall. Its office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. SSD staff are happy to meet with students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) to discuss educational barriers and potential accommodations. Students connecting with SSD for the first time can utilize the steps listed on the “How to Connect” page. For more information, visit ssd.vt.edu or email ssd@vt.edu.

Virginia Tech Accessibility Awareness Week is modeled after Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The goal of this week is to provide learning opportunities and resources that engage the campus community to think, discuss, learn, and take action regarding digital and physical accessibility. The week is sponsored by the Office for Equity and Accessibility, Campus Accessibility Working Group, and Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies.
