Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during April. They include:

April 2, 12:15-1 p.m.: Post-Menopause and What’s Next? (online): These sessions will expand on what being post-menopausal means and the importance of taking care of your health. We will discuss how this time can be the beginning of something wonderful. Part two takes place on April 4. Registration is required.  

April 3, 1-2 p.m.: Wednesday Walk and Talk with Bryan Garey:  Join Bryan Garey, Virginia Tech’s Vice President for Human Resources, for a campus walk. Garey is spearheading change that will position HR to better support a growing and changing university, helping to create a work environment and experience for all faculty and staff to develop and thrive in support of our bold Beyond Boundaries vision. The group will meet at the entrance to the North End Center (300 Turner St. NW) and begin walking at 1 p.m. No registration is required.

April 3, 12-1 p.m.: Self-Care Strategies to Avoid Burnout (online): We will examine strategies we can engage with to recognize psychological and physical symptoms of stress. We will also practice identifying actions we can take to alleviate these stressors before escalating into burnout. Registration is required.  

Guided Meditations (online): Take 30 minutes to begin or end your day with a guided meditation. Build your mindfulness skills with this practice and you may even find that you have a new perspective on your day!  

Learn How to Quit Vaping/Smoking in 30 Minutes: Join us for a no-pressure, 30-minute workshop designed to jump start your quitting process. Whether you're looking to quit yourself or assist a loved one, this workshop is for you. Open to any student, employee, or community member.

April 9, 12-1 p.m.: Healthy Boundaries for Professionals (online): Explore and practice setting healthy boundaries in the workplace while emphasizing communication and connection. Particular focus will be given to support faculty and staff who are often underserved and underrepresented. Registration is required

April 11, 12-1 p.m.: Hokie Wellness Drop-in Hours (online): Are you looking for a campus or community resources and not sure where to find it? Do you have questions about TimelyCare, Care.com, the Employee Assistance Program, PerkSpot, Virginia Tech Rec Sports, or other resources? Are you looking for services such as childcare or eldercare? Are you curious about what yearly medical appointments you should schedule? For all these questions and more, drop in any time during the hour to chat with a Hokie Wellness representative. No registration is required. Join here.

April 16, 12-1 p.m.: Tuesday Walk and Talk with Amy Sebring: Join Amy Sebring, Virginia Tech’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, for a campus walk. Sebring is responsible for the leadership and coordination of the major administrative functions that support the university’s academic, research, and service missions. The group will meet at the bottom of the stairs in front of Burruss Hall and begin walking at noon. No registration is required.

April 17, 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m.: Teaching Kids Finance (online): Teaching kids about personal finances gives them a head start, and we don't just mean piggy banks! Help kids master strategies in investing, saving, and even credit. In this online seminar, Jennifer Huffman, vice president, workplace solutions relationship manager with Atlantic Union Bank, will provide you with the tools you need to get started. Registration is required

April 17, 12-1 p.m.: How to Find a Therapist 101 (online): Finding a mental health professional can be complicated. This becomes even more challenging when you consider your own identity and preferences in working with someone you can trust. We will offer strategies you can use to locate a provider, questions you can ask in initial consultations, and things to look out for when selecting a therapist to work with. Registration is required.

April 17, 12:15-12:45 p.m.: Alpha-Gal Syndrome: An Emerging Epidemic (online): Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a growing threat across the country and is now one of the top tick-borne conditions in  Virginia. Join the "Two Alpha Gals," Debbie Nichols and Candice Matthis, as they dive into AGS, also known as the “red meat allergy.” The Gals will share how they’re using their personal experiences to help the growing AGS community navigate a mammal-free lifestyle, as well as share tips and tricks for management and tick bite prevention. Registration is required.

Mental Health First Aid: This class takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise.
