Register now for March Hokie Wellness programs

Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during March. They include:

Mental Health First Aid (online): Take the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise.  

March 7, 12-1 p.m.: Active Listening Practice: This session is designed to give you space to practice active listening. Whether you are new to active listening or have been using it for years, we all need practice from time to time to continue improving. The workshop will be held in Torgerson 3310. Registration is required.  

March 12 and March 14, 12:15-1 p.m.: Menopause – Hold On: Things Are About to Get Strange (online): This will be an open, frank, and educational two-part discussion that will cover the basics of perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. Registration is required. When you register, you are signing up to attend both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions. (See March 19 and 26 and April 2 for additional sessions in this series.) 

March 14, 12-1 p.m.: Pornography in the Lives of Adolescents (hybrid): Join Professor Jennifer A. Johnson, chair of the Department of Sociology, for a discussion on how digital pornography is highly accessible to adolescents through social media and the implications this hyperaccessibility has for adolescent sexual health. The session will be held in the North End Center, room 3600 and via Zoom. Registration is required

March 18, 12-12:45 p.m.: Mental Health Resources Information Session (online): This session will be an overview of the mental health resources available to Virginia Tech employees. The facilitator will provide information about TimelyCare and the Employee Assistance Program and be available after the presentation to answer questions. Registration is required.

March 19 and March 21, 12:15-1 p.m.: Perimenopause (online): These two sessions will provide information about perimenopause, including when it begins, symptoms and how to manage them, what to expect during this time, and more. Registration is required. When you register, you are signing up to attend both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions. (See March 26 and April 2 for additional sessions in this series.) 

March 20, 12-1:15 p.m.: Brain Break with Hokie Wellness: Take a brain break with Hokie Wellness and make a DIY craft. For more details, visit the registration link. The session will be held in the North End Center. Registration is required

March 22, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Mindful Journaling: Intentional and mindful reflection will offer employees an opportunity to reconnect with their sense of purpose by working through a collection of guided journaling prompts. The session will be held in the North End Center. Registration is required.

March 26 and 28, 12:15 -1 p.m.: Menopause (online): The discussion will center around symptoms and how to manage them, your physical and mental health, available treatments, and how your loved ones and colleagues in the workplace can support you. Registration is required. When you register, you are signing up to attend both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions. (See April 2 for additional sessions in this series.) 

March 27, 1-2 p.m.: Healthy Boundaries for Professionals: Explore and practice setting healthy boundaries in the workplace with an emphasis on communication and connection. This workshop will include a focus on issues facing faculty and staff who are often underrepresented and/or underserved. The workshop will take place in the North End Center. Registration is required

April 2 and April 4, 12:15-1 p.m.: Post-Menopause and What’s Next? (online): These sessions will expand on what being post-menopausal means and the importance of taking care of your health. We will discuss how this time can be the beginning of something wonderful. Registration is required. When you register, you are signing up to attend both the Tuesday and Thursday sessions.
