Call for nominations: McComas Staff Leadership Award

From: Human Resources

Each year, Virginia Tech offers multiple award programs to recognize employees for their commitment to the university and community, new ideas, and teamwork. Thanks to the efforts of more than 10,000 employees, the university continues to grow, innovate, and remain a great place to learn and work.

Nominations are being accepted for the McComas Staff Leadership Award.

The McComas Staff Leadership Award is sponsored by the Division of Human Resources and the Commission for Staff Policies and Affairs. This award recognizes non-student wage and staff employees who regularly demonstrate the behaviors of a strong leader in support of the goals of the university, college, senior management area, and/or department.

  • Classified and university staff and non-student hourly wage positions are eligible. Employees must have worked for the university for at least one year.
  • Nominees do not need to be in a management or supervisory position.
  • Award winners will receive up to a $1,000 pre-tax award.

Submissions are also being accepted for the Administrative and Professional Faculty Award, President’s Award for Excellence, and Staff Career Achievement Award.

New this year, nominators will use a new platform to learn about the award and submit nominations. Visit, select the appropriate award, and create a nomination. Form fields are set up to auto-populate information and help speed up the process and improve accuracy. In addition, the system will automatically send nominations through a review and approval process. Nominators can start a nomination, save, and go back later to complete. Nominators can also check the status of one of their submitted nominations to see if it is pending review or has been approved.

Submit your nomination by Thursday, Feb. 15.
