Mental Health First Aid certification available

From: Hokie Wellness

Employees are encouraged to take the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) class, a nationally recognized training that teaches skills to respond to mental health and substance use related concerns. Each seat is paid for by the university and consists of pre-training, a participant reference manual, a processing guide, and a three-year certification.

The knowledge gained by attending the daylong training takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations around mental health and substance use issues. It improves understanding and provides a framework to help individuals in crisis and non-crisis situations. The training also covers Virginia Tech, local community, and national resources available for support.

MHFA training sessions have limited seats, and this opportunity is in high demand. Before registering, please make sure you can commit to:

  • Completing the pre-work at least two days prior to the instructor-led session (takes up to two hours).
  • Attending the entirety of the instructor-led session.

Registration is required and closes seven (7) days prior to each training date. Trainings will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Jan. 24, 2024 (online)
  • Feb. 20, 2024 (Blacksburg campus)
  • March 1, 2024 (online)

If you have a group of 10 or more and would like to schedule a private training, please email hokiewellness@vt.edu
