Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during November. They include:

Nov. 1, 12-1 p.m.: Walking Wednesday: Walk and talk with Ted Faulkner, assistant vice president for dining, housing, and student centers. Come for the exercise and for the conversation around his expertise on campus. Meet at Quillen Spirit Plaza, the front entrance of Deet's Place at Dietrick Hall. No registration required. In case of rain, the walk will be rescheduled.

Nov. 1, 12-12:45 p.m.: Community Resiliency Model Training: This online workshop presents an overview of the skills of CRM, which is designed to help individuals learn to track their own nervous systems to bring the body, mind and spirit back into greater balance, and to encourage people to pass the skills along to their community. Registration is required

Nov. 1, 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Rapid REVIVE! for Employees: Attend Rapid REVIVE! to learn how to respond in an opioid overdose emergency and how to administer the lifesaving drug naloxone. Receive an emergency response kit and naloxone to take with you free of charge, all in a matter of 15 minutes. North End Center main entrance (Room 2420 if poor weather). Registration is required.

Nov. 8, 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m.: Holiday Budgeting 101: It’s easy to get caught up in the magic of holiday spending. Learn how to create a holiday budget in this online workshop, and avoid a post-holiday spending hangover. Registration is required.  

Nov. 8, 12-1 p.m.: Walking Wednesday: Walk and talk with Bryan Garey, vice president for Human Resources. Come for the exercise and for the conversation around his expertise on campus. Meet in front of the North End Center. No registration required. In case of rain, the walk will be rescheduled.

Nov. 9, 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m.: Six Dimensions of Well-being: Learn a whole-person approach to nourishing your health. Attendees will have the opportunity to assess ways in which they are currently tending to each of the six dimensions of well-being, as well as identify areas for improvement with clear tips and action steps. North End Center, Room 2440. Registration is required.  

Nov. 15, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid: This online course takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance-use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise. Registration is required

Nov. 15, 12 -1 p.m.: Walking Wednesday: Walk and talk with Sarah Jones, the new director of the Cook Counseling Center. Come for the exercise and the opportunity to meet her. Meet at the entrance to McComas Hall. No registration required. In case of rain, the walk will be rescheduled.

Nov. 16, 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m.: Mindfulness, Meditation, and Movement: Learn how to use these tools to help relieve stress, be more present, and add movement to your day. Registration is required.

Nov. 28, 12:15 -1:15 p.m.: Take a Brain Break: Join Hokie Wellness for our monthly Brain Break. Attendees will work on a guided craft. (More information is provided on the registration page.) You may also attend and bring your own personal creative project. North End Center, Room 2440. Registration is required

Nov. 29, 12-1 p.m.: Cooking for Brain Health: Nutrition plays an important role in sustaining cognitive function through essential nutrients. In this hands-on cooking class, learn about different foods you can add to your diet that have these nutrients and brain healthy properties, preparing simple, easy recipes you can make at home. The class is at Wallace Hall in food lab 405. The cost for the class is $10 per person payable by cash or check the day of the class. Registration is required and space is limited.
