Hokie Wellness offers a range of programs during July. They include:

July 5, 12-1 p.m.: Wednesday Walk and Talk with Bryan Garey: Join Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources, for a campus walk that begins at the front entrance of the North End Center and will begin walking at noon. No registration is needed.

Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance-use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance-use disorder. Registration is required.

  • July 11, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Via Zoom (link will be provided).
  • July 19, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. North End Center (room number will be provided).

July 11, 12:15-12:45 p.m.: Brain Break: For this month’s Brain Break, we’ll practice guided mindful doodling. We typically think of doodling as a distraction – a sign that your mind was not where it was supposed to be. Yet research has shown that doodling may in fact be beneficial for well-being, improving memory, focus, and relaxation. Materials will be provided, and employees may also attend and bring their own separate creative projects. Registration is required.

July 12, 8:30-9:30 a.m.: Koru Basic Mindfulness: Koru Mindfulness is an introductory, four-week virtual class that teaches the skill of mindfulness. It will also help you build the habit of using it in your life on a regular basis. You will get a lot more out of the training if you stick with it from beginning to end. Therefore attendance at all sessions is required. The last class will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2. Please double-check your calendar and then sign up.

July 12, 12-1 p.m.: Wednesday Walk and Talk with Amy Sebring: Join Amy Sebring, executive vice president and chief operating officer, for a campus walk that begins at the bottom of the steps of Burruss Hall and near the end of the walk will lead to the new Data and Decision Sciences Building. Dwyn Taylor, assistant vice president for capital construction, and Jon Clark Teglas, chief of staff to the vice president for Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities, will lead a brief tour of the building. The walk will then conclude at Burruss Hall. No registration is needed.

July 13, 2 p.m.: Self-Care Strategies: Self-care is an ongoing and multidimensional practice. This in-person program provides tips for effective and sustainable self-care. The program will be held at the North End Center. The room will be provided after registration. Registration is required.

Planning for Baby: This online program is for employees who are expecting the birth of a child or for new parents of a child under three months of age. All expecting and new parents are welcome to attend, including fathers, non-birth mothers, and adoptive parents. Topics to be discussed include benefits, leave, and resources available to new parents.

Come learn more about opioids, addiction, and how to respond in an emergency. You will receive a REVIVE emergency response kit and the opioid overdose reversal drug  naloxone to take with you free of charge. Registration is required.

July 26, 12-1 p.m.: Join Lynsay Belshe, vice president of auxiliary and business services, for a campus walk that begins at the front entrance of the Cassell Coliseum on Washington Street. The group will begin walking at noon.
