University names first Freedom of Information Act officer
From: University Relations
BJ Norris has been named as the university's first full-time Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer. The position is housed in University Relations and reports to Mark Owczarski.
Norris joined Virginia Tech in 2008 as special assistant to the associate vice president of University Relations. Beginning in 2016, her role was split between University Relations, continuing as part-time FOIA Officer and Advancement Services, where she assumed contract management and other compliance-related responsibilities. Norris's new position as full-time FOIA Officer became effective in February. However, she has continued to serve both roles during a period of transition.
Before joining Virginia Tech, Norris held various senior level risk management and consumer protection positions with federal banking regulatory agencies, including the FDIC and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
