Moving to Cultural Competence course

From: Office for Inclusion and Diversity and Human Resources

Our unique culture at Virginia Tech is diverse and yet, we all feel connected to our motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Our differences and commonalities bring us together in this one place.

This service has led to enriching the knowledge of our employees in a shared understanding of diversity and inclusion, and also to comply with the legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly from 2020, the “Diversity: Inclusion in the Modern Workplace” course was assigned beginning in September 2020. This course was chosen to provide concepts and tools for engaging positively with a complex and diverse world.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has since specified a change in content. Therefore, the state has mandated their training, “State of Virginia: The Road to Cultural Competence” for all state employees. This means that the “Diversity: Inclusion in the Modern Workplace” will no longer be required; however, it is available in PageUp LMS to all who wish to have a fuller understanding of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The “State of Virginia: The Road to Cultural Competence” will be required in PageUp LMS effective Jan. 3, 2022, and covers the basics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All current employees must complete this required training by Jan. 31, 2022. For all new hires, the training should be completed within their first 90 days.

As we work on a better understanding of each other and our vast community, we know you will do so with Ut Prosim at the forefront so that our inclusive culture is strong and enduring.
