Alumni and friends of Virginia Tech come together each fall to enjoy food, friends, and football — a tradition that began nearly a century ago. What is recognized as the the first homecoming football game was played on Oct. 23, 1926, against the University of Virginia at the dedication of Miles Stadium. Virginia Tech won the game 6-0. An official Homecoming Day for alumni was designated in September 1928.

This year, Virginia Tech’s annual Homecoming Weekend took place Oct. 25-27.

The celebration of Hokie Spirit and tradition included activities for alumni, students, community members, and friends, culminating in Saturday’s sold-out football game as the Hokies took on Georgia Tech.

On Friday night, the Homecoming parade wove through the streets of downtown Blacksburg before a fire- works show over the Drillfield. On Saturday, alumni gathered for a tailgate at the Holtzman Alumni Center that featured food, entertainment, activities for children, and more
