Juneteenth event to celebrate Black scientists and engineers

Celebration is important because this is actually hidden knowledges in celebrates independence of those who were enslaved people from my community, where the dreams and hopes of slaves, where we have came from and how far we still have to go this event on June 17 bit about promoting excellence in science and medicine and also seeing an appreciating all the contributions black cloak made on the debt over the centuries before and after experiencing and with SP Virginia Tech specifically, our motto was proclaimed that I made. And I feel like for us to actually serve others. We need to see those who were coming into the lab, coming into MPRE, coming into Virginia Tech in seeing them, their identity, is it actually acknowledging that celebrate the time to actively self-reflect on which many people don't engage in. But we're creating this days and fostering that kind deeper understanding of learning, not just about yourself, but other people around you, especially those that you work with.

Audra Barnes, Kenneth Young, and Monet Roberts are part of the organizing committee for the Juneteenth Celebration of Black Scientists and Engineers, hosted by the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC on June 17, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will showcase the stories and achievements of eight Black leaders among those succeeding in STEM fields, who will describe their journeys – including barriers, challenges, and opportunities. In-person attendance is encouraged. People may register to attend on the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute website.
