Early childhood educators reflect, share, and learn during symposium , articleMore than 100 early childhood educators from throughout the New River Valley attended Virginia Tech’s Early Childhood Symposium on May 6. The all-day event provided them the opportunity to learn from world-renowned experts in the field, as well as time to network with local educators, in the hope of addressing the region’s issues related to their field.

Visiting Instructor Andrew Gipe-Lazarou and students from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies hosted the 2022 Blind Design workshop, a design workshop for students who are blind or visually impaired. The workshop was a collaborative effort between the college and the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired.

Ryan Pieper, associate professor at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, found the key to his contribution in the times of COVID-19 in designing a more efficient and widely -accessible version of the handheld tools he saw being marketed as germ-free ways to open doors and use on touchscreens. His design is open sourced with the hope of providing production opportunities for local machine shops around the world.
