Female runners needed for research study on bone health

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of jumping exercises on bone health in female runners who are eating a reduced-calorie diet over a five-day period.

The study involves two baseline testing vists followed by two intervention phases. In one phase, participants will complete 50 jumping exercises in addition to a treadmill run each day. In the other phase, participants will only complete a daily treadmill run. The two phases will be separated by at least one menstrual cycle where participants will resume their normal lifestyle (no intervention or study requirements). All meals and snacks will be provided by the research team during the five-day intervention periods. A total of five blood draws will be performed over the duration of the study and participants will be asked to wear a continuous glucose monitor and smartwatch (provided by the reseach team) during the two, five-day intervention periods.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are a woman in good general health
  • Between the ages of 18-35
  • Nonsmoker
  • Able to run at least 60-85 minutes on five consecutive days
  • Not on hormonal birth control
  • Have not had a bone injury in the past six months

Participants will receive some sports performance information after the study including VO2max, bone density, running efficiency, body composition (if desired), and $100 for their time.
