Finals week can be stressful for freshmen. The first year experience course, Introduction to International Studies and Political Science, ends its semester by hosting an Exam Care Package Day for their students. These care package can improve focus, energy, and overall well-being, making it easier to succeed during finals. Students can pack their bags with snacks, fruits, drinks and stress relief toys to help get them through the final stretch of their first semester. There's also games to help unwind, and opportunities to meet with professors to go over some challenges they may face as the semester comes to a close.

Discover how Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia, a three-year initiative funded by the Mellon Foundation, is benefiting Appalachian communities and Viginia Tech students. The project, led by Emily Satterwhite and Katrina Powell from Virginia Tech, is dedicated to creating monuments that highlight the untold stories of marginalized communities in Appalachian Virginia. Video ItemVirginia Tech Graduate Research Students Team Up with High Schoolers to Help Cool Down Local Park , video
Graduate Students in Virginia Tech’s School of Public and International Affairs, led by Assistant Professor Theo Lim, developed an interactive game to help solve a problem for the City of Roanoke, Virginia. McCadden Park is located in one of the hottest areas of the city, and is in need of a redesign. Thanks to a partnership with Virginia Western Community College, Lim’s class taught high school students how to play the game and share their ideas. Lim earned a National Science Foundation grant to lead lead a multidisciplinary team of graduate student researchers in a collaboration with the City of Roanoke to alleviate the heat burden in areas throughout the city, and ultimately enhance living conditions for local residents.
