Video ItemVirginia Tech in the 1960s exhibit , video
The VT in the 1960s exhibit is a culmination of a class project from the class America in the 1960s. The class surveys the big picture of the 1960s, charting all kinds of social, political, and cultural change. To create the posters, students flipped through copies of The Virginia Tech newsletter, housed in Special Collections and University Archives, to find an article that stood out to them. Focusing on the history of student life at Virginia Tech was a great way to apply the historical information in a way that was relatable and allowed them to place that information into the bigger historical context.

Video ItemIn Search of Beauty , video
In Search of the Beauty of Nature by Tianming Zhao is an exhibit featuring watercolor paintings and leaf prints inspired by natural beauty. The appreciation of nature is always a guideline for organic architecture. Each leaf, twig and stone have stories to tell, and when combined, they compose a sonata of art and architecture. In a similar but more abstract way, the skills of watercolor are often applied to express the beauty of nature. This exhibit was on display along the Art & Architecture Gallery wall, located in the Art & Architecture library in Cowgill Hall. There are plans to host additional exhibits and artwork in the future so be sure to stop by and stay tuned for more. Video by Liz McVoy and Sophia Trout for Virginia Tech

Video ItemThe Virginia Agricultural Publications Inventory Project , video
The Virginia Agricultural Publications Inventory Project (VAPIP) aims to collect, review, and document agriculture and home science in Virginia over the past 130 years as documented in Agricultural Research and Extension Center publications. Inga Haugen, agriculture, life sciences, and scholarly communication librarian at the University Libraries, and Meagan Russell, a senior biology student, have been combing through these historical documents in order to make a complete inventory for the University Libraries catalog. Throughout the project, the pair are identifying items that need repair in order to be archived, noting data within the documents, double checking research assumptions, and working to ensure materials appear as they should. The greatest goals are to help preserve this content for future research and to make it available to the public.

Video ItemDenim Day 2019 , video
Show the world that Virginia Tech is an inclusive and welcoming campus. Wear your Hokie colors and denim and be a part of our photo on the Drillfield. The Denim Day 40th Commemoration Photo will take place at 12:05 p.m. on Friday, April 5. The idea for a 40th Anniversary Commemoration of Denim Day at Virginia Tech came from one of the organizers of the first Denim Day in 1979. Alumna Nancy Kelly returned to Virginia Tech after hearing about the opening of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center in Squires. She returned with a vision. She wanted the university to recognize the struggle that LGBTQ+ students faced here even after the first LGBTQ+ student organizations were recognized by the university and she wanted to raise awareness of the struggles still faced by LGBTQ+ students today. Denim Day 1979 was a statement. It announced to the university that gay and lesbian students existed at Virginia Tech. This digital exhibit features the voices of alumni from that time recalling what Denim Day meant to them and what life was like for them at Virginia Tech in the late 1970s and early 1980s. An exhibit was created as part of the Denim Day 40th Anniversary Commemorative events in 2019.

Video ItemComplex veterinary cases are made easier through 3D printing technology , video
The University Libraries at Virginia Tech and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine partner to create 3D models for complex surgical cases. Dr. Otto Lanz, professor of small animal surgery, and Kiri Debose, head of the Veterinary Medicine Library, have been working together to blend the technologies both in the classroom and operating room. By using several CT scans, Kiri converts 2D images into an exact 3D model, which is then used by Dr. Lanz as a teaching and learning tool on difficult cases. This exciting technology forges new ways to engage students and animal owners both pre and post-op. The 3D models give everyone a better understanding of the anatomy of the animal, the disease process taking place, and the path to address the issue.
