Emergency preparedness training offered to faculty and staff
As part of an ongoing effort to promote a culture of preparedness and disaster resilience at Virginia Tech, the Office of Emergency Management has developed a new online Emergency Preparedness and Terrorism Awareness training module to prepare faculty and staff to respond in emergencies.
The training module satisfies the requirement of the Governor’s Executive Order 41 issued in 2011 requiring all new employees to complete an emergency preparedness and terrorism training program.
The training module will address ways for faculty and staff to be personally prepared and respond to an emergency. Topics include:
- Emergency Management at Virginia Tech
- Emergency Planning at Virginia Tech
- What to do in an Emergency
- Emergency Preparedness
- Phases of Emergency Management
- Emergency Notification at Virginia Tech
- Terrorism Awareness
“The Office of Emergency Management is pleased to offer this new training module to provide important emergency preparedness information for the Virginia Tech community,” said Michael J. Mulhare, director of emergency management.
All Virginia Tech employees are encouraged to complete the training and assessment. However, new employees are required to complete the training and assessment within their initial 90 days of employment at Virginia Tech. New employees are sent an email reminder of this requirement after they complete orientation.
