Two sophomores in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech's Air Force ROTC Detachment were among only 25 cadets nationwide selected by the United States Air Force for a Pre-Health Professions Program enrollment allocation.

Cadet Ryan Anderson of Hampton, Va., a sophomore majoring in biological studies in the College of Science, and Cadet David Fulbrook of Fairfax, Va., a sophomore majoring in biochemistry in the College of Science, were recently notified of their selection. All cadets selected had at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point average to keep the allocation.

By receiving this allocation the Air Force commits to send both cadets to medical school after they complete their undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech. Anderson and Fulbrook have two options; they can utilize the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program which will pay for tuition, textbooks, and a monthly stipend for living expenses or they can attend the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS), which is the nation’s federal health sciences university and is located in Bethesda, Md.

If they attend USUHS, they will be commissioned as a second lieutenant into the active duty Air Force and will receive full pay, benefits, and entitlements of active duty military officers while attending USUHS. Additionally, all medical school expenses will be paid for by the Air Force. Regardless of the medical school they choose, they will be promoted to the rank of captain in the Air Force Medical Corps after receiving their medical degree.
