Mildred R. Johnson elected to the College Board's Board of Trustees
Effective Nov. 7, Mildred Rigney Johnson, Virginia Tech's director of undergraduate admissions, began serving a four-year term on the College Board's governing body, the board of trustees.
Johnson has been actively involved with the College Board since 2004.
Johnson was formally installed as a board of trustees member at the annual College Board Forum, which was held in Houston, Texas, earlier this month. Prior to being elected to the board, she served as chair of the College Board Southern Regional Council.
College Board President Gaston Caperton congratulated Johnson on her election.
“Mildred Johnson has been intricately involved in the college admissions process during her professional career. At a time when our members have urged a rededication of the profession to its long-standing values, I am delighted that the members have chosen such a thoughtful and experienced admissions director like Mrs. Johnson to join the board of trustees.”
As a member, Johnson will be responsible for assisting in legal and fiduciary decisions; approving the mission, strategic goals, and objectives; establishing policies; and advising those responsible for the management of the organization.
“Virginia Tech is excited to support Mildred in her new role,” said David Ford, vice president and dean for undergraduate education. “Mildred has continuously shown her leadership ability and her recent appointment as director of undergraduate admissions and this remarkable honor substantiates her efforts.”
Johnson has more than 25 years of experience in the admissions profession. She joined Virginia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions in 1995. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she was assistant director of academic advising at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition, Johnson worked as associate director of admissions at Longwood University and Gardner-Webb University, as well as assistant director of admissions at Averett University. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree from Averett University and a master’s degree from Radford University.
