Virginia Tech undergraduate architecture program is #1
Virginia Tech's undergraduate architecture program, in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies School of Architecture + Design, has been ranked #1 in the nation. The ranking was reported by Design Intelligence, the only national college ranking survey focused exclusively on design.
The graduate program in architecture ranked fifth in the nation, and the best of all public universities. There are two locations for graduate programs, in Blacksburg and the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center (WAAC) in the National Capital Region.
The architecture class of 2008 and the rankings information are featured in the November issue of Architect magazine. To view this magazine, go to the College of Architecture and Urban Studies website.
According to Scott Poole, School of Architecture + Design director, the Design Intelligence rankings are the result of polling more than 100,000 professionals in nearly 300 firms across the nation. "These ranking are particularly gratifying considering the fact that there are nearly 120 accredited architecture programs and nearly 150 interior design programs in the United States," said Poole.
Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture + Design is one the largest of its kind, with more than 1,100 students, about 700 of which are in architecture, and nearly 100 faculty and staff.
The College of Architecture and Urban Studies is composed of three schools and the Department of Art and Art History, part of the multi-college School of the Arts. The School of Architecture + Design includes programs in architecture, industrial design, interior design, and landscape architecture. The School of Public and International Affairs includes programs in urban affairs and planning, public administration and policy, and government and international affairs. The Myers-Lawson School of Construction, a joint school of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and the College of Engineering, includes programs in building construction and construction management. The college enrolls more than 2,000 students offering 25 degrees taught by 160 faculty members.
