The 2025–26 academic year marked the second year of the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (SVPE) and represented a year of significant growth, innovation, and collaboration. As a team within the Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Prevention Education, SVPE is part of a comprehensive approach to creating a campus where prevention, education, civil rights, accessibility, and responsive support work together to create an environment where every Hokie can thrive. 

As I reflect on our goals to expand prevention education, strengthen campus partnerships, and cultivate a culture of respect and belonging, I am incredibly proud of what our team accomplished together. Building on the strong foundation established during our inaugural year, we continued to grow our reach and refine our work to better meet the evolving needs of the Virginia Tech community. 

I am especially encouraged by our team’s accomplishments, including, but not limited to: 

  • Expanding prevention education by increasing workshops and outreach opportunities, resulting in a 91% increase in participants reached compared to the previous academic year. 
  • Growing prevention efforts for graduate and professional students through the addition of a dedicated staff member and expanded programming across the Blacksburg, Roanoke, and the greater Washington, D.C., area campuses. 
  • Strengthening the VOICES Peer Education program,  SVPE’s peer education program focused on sexual violence prevention and healthy relationships, through enhanced leadership development, new educational content, and increased student-led outreach and programming. 
  • Deepening partnerships across the university, hosting more than 120 events in collaboration with campus partners to deliver tailored, community-centered prevention education.
  • Developing new workshops and educational resources that reflect emerging student needs while expanding our digital outreach and online prevention initiatives. 

We are grateful for the continued partnership of students, peer educators, faculty, staff, and campus collaborators who recognize that preventing gender-based violence is a shared responsibility. Together, we are creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, strengthening community connections, and equipping Hokies with the knowledge and skills to foster healthy relationships and safer campus environments. 

This annual report highlights the progress made throughout the 2025-26 academic year and reflects our ongoing commitment to evidence-informed prevention efforts. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to expanding our impact, strengthening partnerships across the university, and advancing Virginia Tech’s vision of a community where every Hokie can thrive.
