Corps of Cadets alumnus Capt. Daniel Bense named Maryland game Hokie Hero
U.S. Navy Capt. Daniel Bense, a 1999 Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus, has been named the Hokie Hero for Saturday’s football game against Maryland. A career naval flight officer, he is currently serving in U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility as the U.S. Fifth Fleet maritime operations center director in support of Operation Epic Fury where he is responsible for the daily execution of U.S. naval forces in support of ongoing operations.
During his time in the Corps of Cadets, Bense was the India Company commander. He was also active in several campus organizations including Sigma Chi, the Blue and Gold Society, and the Naval Aviation Society. Bense earned his degree in political science from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
