The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts’ fall 2026 season features performances from students across the university’s colleges and majors, as well as faculty members and guest artists. Events will be held in venues throughout the Blacksburg campus.

Music

This semester’s music events showcase the talent in the Virginia Tech campus community, alongside distinguished guest artists from around the world. Performances will be held in the Squires Recital Salon, the Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community, and the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech. 

Theatre

This season, the Virginia Tech Theatre program will present three plays in Squires Studio Theatre, and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre. 

  • Sept. 28-Oct. 3: “Eureka Day” by Jonathan Spector, directed by Susanna Rinehart. In this Tony Award-winning satirical comedy, the board members of the Eureka Day private school pride themselves on making every decision by consensus, until an unexpected mumps outbreak puts their ideals to the test. 

  • Nov. 10-15: “Dance Nation” by Clare Barron, directed by Julia Devine and choreographed by Rachel Rugh. Inspired by the reality show “Dance Moms,” this unconventional drama follows a fierce troupe of competitive preteen dancers as they claw their way to a national championship while navigating friendship, ambition, rage, and the terror of turning 13.

  • Feb. 23-27: “Nora [A Doll’s House]” by Henrik Ibsen, a new adaptation based on the translation by Henrietta Frances Lord, adapted and directed by Amanda Nelson. This celebrated classic follows Nora Helmer’s struggle for independence within a marriage shaped by the social conventions of the time. While the action of the play takes place in 1879, the work feels unsettlingly familiar and current. 

  • April 21-24: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare, directed by Natasha Staley. In this beloved comedy, young lovers, a troupe of amateur actors, and a band of feuding fairies cross paths in an enchanted forest where nothing is quite as it seems. What follows is a rollicking adventure of magic, mayhem, and mirth.

Cinema

The Progeny Short Film Festival takes place on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. at The Lyric Theatre. Entering its 22nd year, this annual student-led festival showcases local and regional talent. Find out more on how to submit a film to be screened at the event. The final deadline for submissions is Oct. 25.
