Steven “Steve”  McKelvy, retired custodial services worker in the Division of Facilities passed away on Wednesday July 1, he was 72 years old.

McKelvy was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late James Edward McKelvy and Sallie Rickey McKelvy.

McKelvy carried with him the values of hard work and devotion, and he could light up a room with his sense of humor. He was a custodial services worker for the Virginia Tech Division of Facilities for 17 years and worked primarily in the general area around Sterrett Center as well as the Public Safety and Grounds Buildings.

McKelvy loved to laugh, play practical jokes, and keep those around him smiling. His quick wit and playful spirit will be remembered by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. A devoted fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football, Steve rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tide. He also had a special place in his heart for english bulldogs and cherished the many loyal companions he shared his life with over the years.

McKelvy is survived by his brothers, Charles (Sandra) McKelvy, Gerald (Tanya) McKelvy, and Michael (Paige) McKelvy; his sister, Lynn (Mike) Otis; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss his laughter, his stories, and the joy he brought into their lives.

He is preceded in death by his parents James Edward McKelvy and Sallie Rickey McKelvy.
