VMCVM Pet Spotlight: Venus
What’s your name, and do you think it’s as awesome as you are?
My name is Venus, my parents are nerds so I'm named after the planet, the Roman goddess, and my dad's senior aerospace engineering undergrad project (the Venus flyby mission).
Who is your human and what is their role at the veterinary college?
Bre Payne is my mom, she's the administrative assistant for the Advancement office. Sometimes she comes home smelling like other dogs - traitor.
What kind of critter are you, and what makes your breed (or mix) totally pawsome?
I'm a French bulldog and Jack Russell terrier mix *cue The Best of Both Worlds by Hannah Montana*
How many candles are on your birthday cake this year — or are you keeping that a secret?
I'll be 6 this year! But don't tell my mom, she'll cry about me "getting old."
Where did you find your human, and what made you pick them?
My mom found me!! She and my dad brought me home from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania. On the ride home they bought me Chick-fil-a nuggies!
How would you describe yourself: a snugglebug, a wild child, or the boss of the house?
All of the above!! I'm a couch potato most of the day and a wild child for the rest.
What’s your signature move to get attention — puppy eyes, zoomies, or something else?
I pull the classic puppy eyes move AND the Frenchie stomps.
Do you have a favorite toy that you’d fight a dragon to keep?
I have so many toys, but also not enough! Any of my Kong wubba toys - final answer.
What’s your go-to snack, and how do you convince your human to hand it over? (Do you have a secret trick?)
Any chicken flavor treat, all I have to do is "sit pretty" and give my mom puppy eyes. Works every time!
What’s the most epic adventure you’ve had with your human?
We went to a cabin in Tennessee with my auntie and grandma! I may or may not have faked an injury during the trip and scared my dad.
What’s something you did that left your human totally speechless — good or bad?
I once peed on my last vet's boots because I was so excited to see him.
What’s your best “I’m too cute to handle” pose for the camera?
My mom says it's when I'm sitting with my radar dishes (ears) up and my nubby tail is wiggling.
Describe a day in your fabulous life. Do you work hard or hardly work?
Hardly working is my style. I sleep until mid day, eat, take more naps, act crazy when my mom gets home, more naps, play, more crazy and then it's time for bed again!
Do you have any rituals with your human, like belly rub o’clock or snack time at sundown?
She gives me two chews after dinner every day, helps me do stretches, and gives me sooo many kisses.
What’s your relationship status with other animals? BFFs, frenemies, or “it’s complicated”?
My animal bestie is my auntie's cat, Otis (aka Oat). Otis and I are partners in crime, nap pals, and sometimes frenemies too.
Do you have any party tricks that wow the crowd?
My cuteness wins people over every time. But, if that doesn't work, I flop over for belly rubs.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I want to be able to jump high enough to reach my treat jar. Or to be able to speak human so I can tell my mom to give me more treats!
What’s one thing your human should learn from you?
How to be a couch potato - she's always busy doing human stuff, she should snooze on the couch with me instead.
What’s the best thing about being your human’s sidekick?
Cuddles and her cooking! Anytime she makes chicken, she always puts a little aside for me.
Anything else you want to bark, meow, chirp, neigh, or squeak to the readers? (This is your moment!)
My mom says I live a pretty good life. I have a big basket of toys, five super soft dog beds in the house, treat jars that are never empty, and all the love I could ask for! :)
