Clayton Metz has been named director of marketing and communications for Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business, effective July 10.

In this role, Metz will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications program for the college that aligns with and advances universitywide priorities while reflecting Pamplin's mission and distinctive strengths.

Metz will work closely with college leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners to expand the visibility of Pamplin's faculty and programs and elevate the college's national reputation.

"Clayton brings a track record of impact and innovation in marketing and communications," said Saonee Sarker, dean of the college. "We are excited to welcome Clayton to the college and look forward to his leadership in strategic storytelling and audience engagement."

Metz joined Virginia Tech in 2018 and currently serves as communications and digital media manager for the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, where he expanded the institute's digital presence and elevated the visibility of faculty research and expertise. His work contributed to more than 1,600 media placements, including coverage in The New York Times, Nature, and National Geographic, and included the launch of Big Science Small Pod, a podcast highlighting discoveries and the people behind them.

Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Metz held communications and content leadership positions at James Madison University, University of Central Florida, and Radford University. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech in 2025 and a bachelor's degree in media studies from Radford University.
