Rolando Burgos awarded Electro-Mechanical Corporation Senior Faculty Fellowship
Rolando Burgos, professor of electrical and computer engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech and the past director of the Center for Power Electronics Systems, has been honored with the Electro-Mechanical Corporation Senior Faculty Fellowship in Advanced Manufacturing by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The Electro-Mechanical Corporation Senior Faculty Fellowship in Advanced Manufacturing was established with a generous gift from Frank Leonard to strengthen the collaborative relationship between Electro-Mechanical Corporation and Virginia Tech and to expand opportunities and innovation in the field of advanced manufacturing.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2002, Burgos has made a profound impact on the advanced manufacturing workforce pipeline.
He has authored more than 700 refereed publications and holds 30 patents, and his work has received more than 31,000 citations. In collaboration with his peers at the Center for Power Electronics Systems, he has conducted more than 120 sponsored research projects and grants worth more than $70 million with a personal share of $30 million. In the process, he has also established close collaborations with faculty members within the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering. He also has cemented collaborations with top academic institutions and research programs worldwide.
He has advised more than 55 Ph.D. and master’s degree students, many of whom now work in leading research and academic institutions and companies in the energy, transportation, and aerospace sectors.
Burgos received his bachelor’s, electronics engineering professional degree, master’s, and Ph.D. from the University of Concepcion in Chile.
