Gregory W. Justice honored with emeritus status
Gregory W. Justice, associate professor of theatre in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of associate professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 42 years, Justice taught acting and movement courses at all levels, many of which he created, such as Introduction to Acting for Non-majors. His instructional portfolio also included Introduction to Theatre, Contemporary Theatre Seminar, and Directing, and he provided extensive coaching to students preparing for auditions and interviews.
Justice's impact extended beyond the theatre curriculum. He taught courses in the University Honors Program and held instructional roles in several study abroad programs, including Semester at Sea; the study abroad program in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and the Presidential Global Scholars program in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland.
His creative activity as director and artist includes acting in over 100 productions, serving as movement or acting coach for more than 40 productions and directing 60 productions at Virginia Tech.
Throughout his career, Justice provided leadership workshops nationally and internationally on the application of acting techniques to teaching, interviewing, and business and professional communication. He shared his expertise with universities, schools, government agencies, businesses, and Fortune 500 companies, while also serving as a contracted professor for the Online MBA program.
His contributions have been recognized through honors including the Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence, the Diggs Teaching Scholar Award, and the Virginia Theatre Association Distinguished Service Award.
Justice received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and a Master of Fine Arts from Penn State University.
