Soni Mills

Licensed Veterinary Technician, Community Practice

The best part of being at VMCVM...
Working with students, both veterinary and vet tech.

Best advice I've gotten...
Work hard, stay humble.

How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline?
Quiet heroes in scrubs: Veterinary technician balances science, compassion and the voices animals don't have.

My hidden talent...
Professionalism on phones with clients.

A person who has inspired me...
My daughter Jami.

Can you share a memorable experience or story from your time working with animals?
I was involved in definitive radiation therapy for a dog with soft tissue sarcoma, which was a curative treatment.

What do you find most inspiring or fulfilling about working with students and helping them pursue their careers?
Being a part of their learning experience is so special and rewarding, knowing and hearing that you have made a difference in the careers of these special humans.

One misconception that all students seem to have is?
How difficult the job can be.

If I had a superpower, it would be...
Cure all cancer.

If you could magically grant an animal the ability to talk, which one would you choose and what do you think it would say?
Mine already talk, don't yours?

A cause I'm most passionate about...
Cancer research.

Favorite way to end the day...
Getting loves from my patients.

Top of my bucket list...
Move to the beach.

My favorite quote...
We die only once, and for such a long time.

If you could communicate with animals for a day, what would you ask them?
What hurts.

How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?
5 dogs, 5 parrots, 3 snakes, a bearded dragon and a betta. Diamond, Shyne, Isa, Lola and Anya are my dogs, Chorizo, Cochise and Soba are my scaled babies, and birds are 3 green cheek conures, Meraki, Pina and Pepita, parrotlets are Albert and Armand, and Flare the betta.
