New dining plans launch this fall to fuel the Hokie experience
Beginning this fall, Virginia Tech Dining Services will roll out new dining plans that better support how students live, learn, and connect on campus.
Dining is part of the rhythm of campus life, and Dining Services is dedicated to keeping students energized, focused, and ready for whatever the day brings.
“These new dining plans are about fueling the student experience to fit their expectations and lifestyles.” said Brian Grove, director of Dining Services. “They’re about fueling students’ success, well-being, and sense of community. We listened to student feedback and designed plans that provide flexibility, value, and reliable access to food, so that students can focus on making the most of their time at Virginia Tech.”

Designed for today’s Hokies
With varied schedules, on- and off-campus living arrangements, and fast-paced campus life, students need dining options that fit naturally into their routines.
Key features include:
- Simple plan structures that reduce stress around meals and budgeting
- Guaranteed unlimited access to nutritious, appealing food options
- Clear, upfront costs to help ensure the most value
- Additional declining balance dollars available to off-campus students who choose an Orange dining plan
Dining Services piloted the new plans with a group of students this spring, using feedback to refine the experience ahead of the full rollout.
For Tucker Tetterton, who participated in the pilot program, the flexibility of having unlimited access to D2 and being able to use his declining balance dollars at other dining facilities made for an enjoyable experience.
“The new dining plan gives me no doubt about where I will get food,” Tucker said. “The plans are simple and easy to understand, which is very important to me.”
A snapshot of the new dining plans
The new dining plans are organized into three categories, each curated to support different student needs:
- Unlimited dining plans: These plans are required for first-year students living on campus and available to all students. These plans provide unlimited swipes at all-you-care-to-eat dining facilities, with options to add Declining Balance Dollars for additional flexibility.
- Maroon dining plans: Available to upper-year students living on or off campus, these plans offer a set amount of Declining Balance Dollars for students with established routines who spend significant time on campus.
- Orange dining plans: Offered specifically for off-campus students, Orange dining plans include bonus Declining Balance Dollars, helping stretch food budgets on days spent on campus.
Students and families can explore plan details and find the best fit to fuel their experience.
