Pamplin’s MBA programs climb in U.S. News & World Report rankings
Virginia Tech's Online MBA and Evening MBA both climbed to No. 33 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, jumping 22 and 19 spots respectively.
The Pamplin College of Business has earned significant gains in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, with the Online MBA climbing 22 spots to No. 33 in the Best Online Master's in MBA Programs category and the Evening MBA rising 19 spots to No. 33 in the Best Part-Time MBA Programs category.
“These rankings reinforce our commitment to meeting MBA students where they are, and to providing a world-class education that doesn't require sacrificing your career or personal life,” said Saonee Sarker, the Richard E. Sorensen Dean of the Pamplin College of Business.
U.S. News evaluates online MBA programs based on student-faculty engagement, peer assessment by other MBA program officials, faculty credentials and training, student excellence, and integration of online learning technologies. Students can use these rankings to help them find programs that will allow them to “excel at education distance learning while providing robust career and financial support,” according to U.S. News & World Report.
"Our peer assessment score has been a consistent strength, reflecting the reputation Pamplin has built through faculty research and a rigorous, market-relevant curriculum," said Rajesh Bagchi, associate dean for research, graduate programs, and centers in the Pamplin College of Business. "Rankings like this validate what our students and alumni already know: that Virginia Tech delivers a transformative educational experience across every level of graduate study."
That momentum carries directly into the next chapter of Pamplin's MBA offerings. Launching fall 2026, the Flex MBA pathway draws on the same faculty, curriculum, and Alexandria campus experience that shaped both ranked programs, while giving students something neither format offered on its own: the freedom to choose online or in-person classes semester by semester, and to change that mix as their careers and lives evolve.
“We are thrilled that both the Online and Part-time MBA Program offerings made significant gains this year in the U.S. News and World Report Rankings,” Director of MBA Programs Linda Christie said. “This reflects the hard work of our renowned faculty and the accomplished professionals who choose to earn a Virginia Tech MBA, and it sets a strong foundation as we prepare to launch the Flex MBA this fall — a pathway built on the same foundation that earned this recognition, with the added flexibility today's working professionals need.”
