Go-live dates adjusted for My Virginia Tech rollout
The HokieSPA and legacy Banner platform will continue until the new solution is fully prepared for launch.
Virginia Tech is shifting the timeline for the rollout of the new My Virginia Tech (my.vt.edu) student information system platform, which will replace HokieSPA. Program sponsors reached this decision March 19, after a full evaluation of progress toward key milestones on the path to launch the new platform.
The platform will serve as an updated, central location for all student-related information, the administration of academic and financial processes for students, as well as a hub for access to integrated software solutions that provide tools and services for students, employees, and alumni. A new go-live date is under consideration.
“From the outset, our paramount objective has been to deliver a robust and stable solution that meets the needs of all sectors of the Virginia Tech community. My VT is the backbone that will undergird numerous integral business and academic processes, and as such, this project is among the most complex technology implementations that Virginia Tech has ever undertaken,” said Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer Sharon P. Pitt. “It became clear over recent weeks that we needed to allow more time for our vendor partner to complete its work.”
Deferring the May 26 launch date will allow additional time for the vendor to refine data transfer processes, work through and resolve issues with key workflows and tools, and allow the internal team to thoroughly and repeatedly test the tools delivered.
This change in the timeline means that students, faculty, and staff will have more time to use HokieSPA and existing workflows than was originally anticipated.
The university's Enterprise Resource Planning modernization project team is carefully evaluating alternate possible launch dates while considering the full scope of university activities that depend on these platforms and the ability of the vendor to meet those dates. Previously announced information sessions will be rescheduled.
