Virginia Tech sees another successful Giving Day
In 24 hours, 25,055 Hokies from around the world came together to raise more than $17 million in support of Virginia Tech during the university’s annual Giving Day.
Once a year, Virginia Tech’s Giving Day invites members of the Hokie community to come together in support of what they love about the university.
This year, a record 25,000 Hokies participated in the event, raising more than $17 million for Virginia Tech colleges, teams, programs, and student organizations. Alumni, students, faculty, and staff joined in from around the world, with many encouraging friends and family members to give alongside them.
Held from noon Feb. 18 to noon Feb. 19, Giving Day invited the Hokie community to support the areas of campus that matter most to them. Gifts made during the event provide funding for scholarships, research, academic initiatives, and student experiences.
“Giving Day is always a powerful reminder of what this community is capable of,” said Ciji Good, director of annual giving. “Whether it was a first-time gift, encouragement to inspire others to participate, or support for a program near to their heart, every contribution helped make this event such a success. We’re deeply grateful for everyone who took part.”
Much of the day’s momentum was driven by ambassadors – dedicated Hokies who spread the word about Giving Day through social media, email, and personal outreach. Their efforts helped generate thousands of gifts and added more than $969,000 to the total raised.
While Giving Day lasts for just 24 hours, the impact of the support will be felt for years, helping to create opportunities for students and strengthening programs that define the Virginia Tech experience.
