To the university community,
Welcome to our spring semester at Virginia Tech! I hope you enjoyed the winter break and are ready to take on the challenges and opportunities this new year will bring.
In 2026, we are prepared to boldly move forward as an engaged public research university focused on impact, outcomes, and a commitment to serve our communities. Executive Vice President and Provost Julie Ross assumed the leadership of our academic enterprise last week and is already deeply engaged in advancing our strategic priorities. Her predecessor, Cyril Clarke, will be using his extensive experience and skill to help implement our vision for the Virginia Tech Innovation Network.
This year, we will double down on Virginia Tech Global Distinction and Virginia Tech Advantage, pursue deep partnerships and community engagement, move Virginia Tech Athletics to the next level, and demonstrate the tangible value of public higher education. My State of the University Address on Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech will include details about the university’s economic impact, real people in our communities who benefit from our efforts, and our plans to do even more. I hope you’ll join me in person or online.
Setting the stage to advance all the university’s strategic priorities this year took a great deal of work, focus, and commitment. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Because of you, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Virginia Tech.
Let’s go, Hokies!
Tim Sands,
President
