Hans H. Haller, professor of economics in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 39 years, Haller made significant research contributions to the study of microeconomic theory, game theory, and evolutionary game theory.

In addition, Haller authored or co-authored more than 100 refereed journal articles, book chapters, and reviews and served on several journal editorial boards.

Haller served his department as director of graduate studies from 1993-94 and as department head from 2007-11.

Haller advised numerous students on master’s degree theses and doctoral dissertations, guiding them toward successful careers in both academic and industry settings.

In the classroom, Haller taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses ranging across the entire microeconomic theory curriculum, placing strong emphasis on academic standards and student learning.

Haller received his doctoral degree in mathematics from the University of Erlangen and Nurnberg.
