Steven Sheetz honored with emeritus status
Steven Sheetz, professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 29 years, Sheetz made significant contributions to research on group cognitive mapping and the use of information systems in crises, which brought international visibility to Virginia Tech.
He published numerous articles in peer-reviewed academic and practice related journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters as well as published articles that have been widely cited across multiple disciplines.
He received several National Science Foundation and other grant awards. He also served as a reviewer for multiple academic journals and as a member of the editorial boards of several journals.
Sheetz was named the PricewaterhouseCoopers Senior Faculty Fellow for his dedication to high quality research and teaching. In the classroom, he taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems as well as courses in the Master of Information Technology multidisciplinary online program.
Throughout his career, he advised many graduate and doctoral students and served on numerous doctoral dissertation committees.
Sheetz received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Texas Tech University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Northern Colorado, and his doctoral degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
