What’s your name, and do you think it’s as awesome as you are?
My name is Axel, and I think it is pretty cool :)

Who is your human and what is their role at the veterinary college?
My mom is Madison Brown, and she's the Content Specialist for the college! (Whatever that means)

What kind of critter are you, and what makes your breed (or mix) totally pawsome?
I am a dachshund mix (my DNA test says I'm 1% Rottweiler, so I like to channel that from time to time)

How many candles are on your birthday cake this year—or are you keeping that a secret?
I just turned 9 years old in September, though I don't look a day over 2!

Where did you find your human, and what made you pick them?
My grandparents took me home to my mom!! They just couldn't resist how cute I was when I was a puppy ;)

How would you describe yourself: a snugglebug, a wild child, or the boss of the house?
I like to think I'm the boss of the house, but the real boss is my stepsister, Neve. She is a husky full of attitude! I also am a snugglebug, but can get a little silly sometimes

What’s your signature move to get attention—puppy eyes, zoomies, or something else?
I have an arsenal of ways to get attention, whether that be puppy eyes, whining, yipping at my mom, or bringing her a toy.

Do you have a favorite toy that you’d fight a dragon to keep?
I have a stuffed quail that I LOVE to play with, even though I have tons of other toys (when my stepsister doesn't tear them apart!!) I also love sticks and will eat them if my mom doesn't watch me carefully ;)

What’s your go-to snack, and how do you convince your human to hand it over? (Do you have a secret trick?)
I love Greenie's and will run to the spot next to the treats when it is time for me to get my daily treat!

What’s the most epic adventure you’ve had with your human?
My grandparents live really far away from us, so when we travel to see them, it is a fun adventure! We also get to go to the beach, and I like to relax in the sand.)

What’s something you did that left your human totally speechless—good or bad?

At the beginning of September, I got very sick and had to stay in the hospital for around 4 days. I had a really bad case of pancreatitis, which made a bunch of other things go wrong! Thankfully, the doctors over at Town and Country Vet Clinic didn't give up on me and I am here to tell the tale! My mom and dad were very worried about me and came to visit me often, and now they give me all the attention in the world!! Now, I'm a patient at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Small Animal Internal Medicine to see if we can fix my anemia and thrombocytopenia (as if I couldn't get any more sick). I'm not a huge fan of the hospital, but I know I'm there to get better!!

What’s your relationship status with other animals? BFFs, frenemies, or “it’s complicated”?
I have a lot of animal family members! I have two doggie siblings, Kia (she has crossed the rainbow bridge now!) Bentley, two feline siblings, Willow and Midnight, and two step-siblings, Neve (husky) and Alba (calico kitty), and we get along great. Although, I try to let them know who's boss (sometimes it works).

Do you have any party tricks that wow the crowd?
I LOVE to chase my tail, everyone laughs when I do it!

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Racking up a bill at the vet!! (Sorry mom...)

What’s one thing your human should learn from you?
Give me more treats, I am a good boy!!!

What’s the best thing about being your human’s sidekick?
I love being outside and going on walks with my mom, but I also love to cuddle up on the couch with her while she's working or watching TV. She is the best pillow!

Anything else you want to bark, meow, chirp, neigh, or squeak to the readers? (This is your moment!)
In September, I got very sick and had to be taken to the emergency hospital at Town and Country Vet Clinic. I want to thank the people that got me feeling better, Dr. Polluck, Dr. Pierce, Dr. Canevari, and all the techs and assistants who took care of me while I was away from my mom! I also want to shout out Dr. Showers, who is my doctor at Internal Medicine here at the vet school and the student doctors, LVTs, and vet assistants who are helping to get me back into tip top shape. <3
