Employees honored for their military service
The memorial wreath is placed in front of the cenotaph on War Memorial Court.
In honor of Veterans Day, Virginia Tech commemorates the service, sacrifice, and commitment of each employee who served their country as members of the military.
The approximately 338 employees who self-identify as military veterans will receive an invite to this year’s Veterans Day events along with a keychain and challenge coin as tokens of appreciation. The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will hand-deliver tokens to veterans working on the Blacksburg campus.
"Our veterans embody the true spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Their devotion to our country and willingness to sacrifice for others inspire our cadets and strengthen our Virginia Tech community. On Veterans Day, and every day, we honor their courage, their example, and their enduring commitment to something greater than themselves, " said Maj. Gen. William H. Seely III, commandant of the Corps of Cadets.
On Nov. 11, the Corps of Cadets will honor veterans with a public remembrance ceremony at the War Memorial Chapel, featuring a rifle salute.
“We are proud to honor our veterans through our ongoing partnership with the Corps of Cadets,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “We look forward to celebrating your service both to our nation and to Virginia Tech. We thank you, Hokies.”
The Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the War Memorial Chapel at 601 Drillfield Drive. At 11 a.m., the memorial wreath will be placed at the Pylons at War Memorial Court.
