Cadets honored with flag detail at Louisville game
Cadets Charlie Hudson, Sam Selby, and Iain Fergusson received the flags at Saturday’s football game against Louisville.
The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.
Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carried the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and led the team onto the field. They delivered the flags to cadets at the south end of the field. The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, rendered honors to the flags and carried them off the field.
Hudson, from Richmond, is a sophomore majoring in national security and foreign affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. A member of Army ROTC and the corps’ Bravo Company, he is a reliable and motivated leader. He has taken the initiative to boost company morale each morning and volunteered to serve as the company guidon bearer. Beyond his formal duties, Hudson actively embraces company traditions and prioritizes meaningful relationships with his peers and subordinates.
Selby is majoring in national security and foreign affairs. From Stafford, he is consistently a high-performing cadet who shares his motivation and positive attitude with those around him. Other cadets seek him out for his mentorship and encouragement, of which he has a steady supply. A selfless and approachable leader, Selby is a junior in Alpha Company and a member of Air Force ROTC.
Fergusson, a junior from Chesapeake, is a member of Army ROTC and is majoring in psychology in the College of Science. He has distinguished himself through his sustained professional presence as the platoon sergeant for upper-class cadets in Charlie Company. His leadership skills and attention to detail in that role led to his subordinates’ exceptional performance on the recent regimental inspection. Fergusson sets high standards for himself and his cadets while also sharing his upbeat attitude.
