What motivated you to attend Pamplin, and how did your time there shape your career path?

I was drawn to Pamplin because of its reputation for combining rigorous academics with real-world relevance. As someone who is constantly curious, Pamplin offered the perfect environment to explore my interests. My time at Pamplin laid the foundation for my career in public policy and government affairs — it gave me the analytical tools, ethical grounding, and leadership mindset that I carry into every role I’ve held since.

Please share a memorable experience from your time at Pamplin that influenced your professional development and/or career path.

One of the most transformative experiences during my time at Pamplin was participating in a study abroad program in South Africa. It was more than just an academic journey—it was a deep dive into global business dynamics, cultural understanding, and social impact. The program blended classroom learning with immersive field experiences, allowing us to engage directly with local entrepreneurs, NGOs, and corporate leaders. That exposure broadened my perspective on economic development and the role of technology in emerging markets. It shaped not only my academic interests but also my commitment to innovation in public policy.

What skills did you learn during your time at Pamplin that continue to serve you personally and professionally?

Pamplin gave me more than just technical and strategic skills—it instilled in me a deep sense of purpose rooted in Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Whether I’m working on national public policy or building cross-sector partnerships, the skills I gained at Pamplin help me stay grounded in service and impact. That mindset continues to guide both my professional decisions and personal values.

In your current role, how do you demonstrate leadership and drive innovation?

In my role as Executive Director/Chief of Staff, Public Policy, and Digital Opportunity, I lead by fostering collaboration across functions and championing inclusive, forward-thinking solutions. I drive innovation by identifying emerging challenges and building cross-sector partnerships to address them. Whether it's shaping policy frameworks, launching initiatives that expand access to technology, or advising on responsible innovation, I focus on translating vision into impact. At the heart of it all is Ut Prosim—the commitment to serve and create lasting value for communities.

What advice would you offer to current Pamplin students aspiring to enter your field?

Start by exploring how your interests intersect with public policy and positively impact communities that you care about. The most meaningful careers in this field are rooted in a commitment to improving lives, especially in underserved or overlooked areas. That mindset will guide you toward purpose-driven leadership. Second, build relationships early. Seek mentors, internships, and experiences that expose you to real-world policy challenges. Third, stay curious and adaptable. Virginia Tech is built to prepare you for the rapidly evolving global landscape, and successful leaders are those who can anticipate change, embrace innovation, and advocate for inclusive solutions. Finally, remember that purpose matters. Your career will be most fulfilling when it aligns with a mission larger than yourself.
