VMCVM Pet Spotlight: Princess Petunia Potato
What’s your name, and do you think it’s as awesome as you are?
Princess Petunia Potato, and I am the most special dog in the world.
Who is your human and what is their role at the veterinary college?
Andrew Burton. He is a veterinary technician in the small animal ICU.
What kind of critter are you, and what makes your breed (or mix) totally pawsome?
I am a basset hound. I have the most amazing ears and facial expressions.
How many candles are on your birthday cake this year—or are you keeping that a secret?
A Princess normally doesn’t share her age, but I’ll be 13 this year.
Where did you find your human, and what made you pick them?
Dad worked at the animal hospital I used to go to, and cared for me there. I injured my back and my previous hoomans could no longer care for me, and Dad said I could come live with him.
How would you describe yourself: a snugglebug, a wild child, or the boss of the house?
Totally boss of the house.
What’s your signature move to get attention—puppy eyes, zoomies, or something else?
Sweet, sad basset eyes that get me whatever I want.
What’s your go-to snack, and how do you convince your human to hand it over? (Do you have a secret trick?)
I can smell when the bell peppers exit the fridge and will appear from wherever I am and stare at Mom or Dad until they give me a slice.
What’s the most epic adventure you’ve had with your human?
I enjoy camping, but my favorite adventure is riding in my chariot behind Dad’s bicycle.
What’s your best “I’m too cute to handle” pose for the camera?
Tongue out, ears up.
Describe a day in your fabulous life. Do you work hard or hardly work?
I work hard at taking long naps, waiting for scraps to hit the floor, and making sure the young boys (Eddie Alan and Gustavus Falkor) stay in line.
What’s your relationship status with other animals? BFFs, frenemies, or “it’s complicated”?
It’s complicated, the boys irritate me sometimes, at others I want to play with them but can’t. Three of the cats (Skippy Lizzie, and Ruth) mostly ignore me, but the big orange fluffer (Apollo) does like to steal my bed sometimes.
Do you have any party tricks that wow the crowd?
I love to leave and hide poo bombs around the house.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Flying with my glorious ears.
What’s one thing your human should learn from you?
Never be afraid to make your voice be heard.
What’s the best thing about being your human’s sidekick?
Bike rides.
