First-year Cadets Alan Pellissier, Ashlyn Mason, and Heidi Nahid received the flags at Saturday’s football game against Wake Forest.

The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carried the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and led the team onto the field. They delivered the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, rendered honors to the flags and carried them off the field. For home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.

Pellissier, from Charlottesville, is a member of the corps’ Citizen-Leader Track and majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. A member of Bravo Company, he is a disciplined, high-performing cadet who completes tasks well. He prioritizes his physical fitness and uniform appearance, setting high standards for himself and achieving them.

Mason is majoring in criminology in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. From Chesterfield, she has a positive and helpful attitude that fosters a team environment. Her inquisitive, upbeat personality and her exceptional performance inspire both her peers and her leaders. She is a member of the Citizen-Leader Track and Oscar Company.

Nahid, from Fairfax, is also a member of the Citizen-Leader Track and is majoring in biological sciences in the College of Science. She has a can-do attitude and seeks to serve other cadets and community. A member of Bravo Company, Nahid continually looks for ways to improve herself and her team.

The corps’ Citizen-Leader Track was established in 2000 with a goal to equip cadets for professional careers in business, government, nonprofits, and more. Within the corp’s leader development model and military structure, Citizen-Leader Track cadets take on progressive leadership positions while completing coursework in leadership, management, and ethics, and have the chance to earn an additional minor in leadership studies.
