Cadet Brendan Scott traveled to Atlanta with the Hokies to receive the flags at Saturday’s football game against Georgia Tech.

The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carry the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and lead the team onto the field. They deliver the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, render honor to the flags and carry them off the field. At home games three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.

Scott is majoring in building construction in the College of Engineering.  He is a member of India Company and the corps’ Citizen-Leader Track, where he brings a coaching and mentoring approach to his role as a physical training instructor to help cadets better their physical fitness. From Pittsboro, North Carolina, Scott takes a holistic approach to physical wellness, developing nutrition training, fitness instruction, and as focused workouts to help cadets with their individual areas of need.

The corps’ Citizen-Leader Track prepares cadets for professional careers in business, government, nonprofits, and more. Citizen-Leader Track cadets are fully integrated within the Corp’s leader development model and military structure, where they take on progressive leadership positions while completing coursework in leadership, management, and ethics.
