Ioannis Koutromanos, associate professor of structural engineering and materials in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, has been awarded the Raymond G. and Madelyn Ann Curry Endowed Faculty Fellowship in Structural Engineering by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The Raymond G. and Madelyn Ann Curry Endowed Faculty Fellowship in Structural Engineering was established in 2018 with a gift from Raymond G. Curry Jr. ’54 and his wife, Madelyn. Raymond Curry was an entrepreneur in the construction and development industry.

A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 13 years, Koutromanos is nationally recognized as a leading researcher in the design and repair of structures impacted by earthquakes. 

Koutromanos has published over 69 peer-reviewed papers, nine book chapters, and a textbook. He has directed or co-directed over $3.3 million of externally funded research at Virginia Tech with a personal share of over $1.7 million.

He is known as a dedicated classroom instructor and research advisor who excels at mentoring graduate students and involving his students in scholarly publications.

Koutromanos received a diploma in civil engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and both his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of California at San Diego.
