Tanyel Bulbul appointed faculty fellow
Tanyel Bulbul, associate professor of construction and design in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, has been named the Preston and Catharine White Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The Preston and Catharine White Fellowship in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction was established with a generous gift from Preston and Catharine White to support the development of Hitt Hall. The endowment’s distributions are designated to support additional leadership positions within the school, namely, the Preston and Catharine White Faculty Fellows, when the director already holds a directorship or professorship. These fellowships strengthen the leadership team within the school.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 15 years, Bulbul makes significant research contributions to automation in design and construction, exploring automated assembly systems using augmented reality head-mounted displays with a specific focus on information presentation methods, mental workload evaluations using electroencephalogram, and situational awareness in dynamic construction settings.
Bulbul serves as the chair of the building construction program in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. She teaches a wide variety of courses in the areas of design and construction, including digital construction and modeling in design, construction, and manufacturing. She teaches students how to make virtual buildings using building information modeling programs and use sensors to translate physical buildings into data with practical applications.
Bulbul received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Orta Dogu Technical University, Turkey, and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
