Vicki Baker, fiscal technician in the School of Education, passed away on Aug. 1 at her home.

Baker worked at Virginia Tech for 17 years and spent the entirety of her time at the university in the School of Education.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague, Vicki Baker. Known for her kind spirit and willingness to help wherever she was needed, she was a true friend to many and a valued member of our team,” said Beth Lawton, budget manager for the school. “Her friendly smile, caring nature, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who had the privilege to work alongside her. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of kindness and service will remain with us always.”

Baker was a member of Tree of Life Fellowship and Belmont II Ruritan Club. She enjoyed reading, the beach, gardening in her flowers, music, and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Baker, and her father, Jack Gray. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alyce Baker and Matthew Schweighart; mother, Sylvia Gray; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Karey Gray; and nephew, Zachary Wayne Gray.
