School of Performing Arts' fall 2025 season includes student and faculty performances
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts' fall 2025 season of music, theatre, and cinema includes performances by students, faculty members, and guest artists.
Events will be held in venues across the Blacksburg campus and many are free.
Music
Music events range from intimate chamber music recitals to large orchestra concerts to the New Music + Technology Festival. Performances will be held in the Squires Recital Salon, the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, the Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community, and Church on Main.

Theatre
This fall, two plays will be presented in Squires Studio Theatre, both featuring students. Each show runs for six performances with general admission seating.
- Sept. 30-Oct. 5: “Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven” by Reina Hardy, directed by Susanna Rinehart. This science fiction coming-of-age play follows Annie Jump, a 13-year-old science genius, whose world changes when a cosmic librarian appears to help her save humanity. Blending humor and heart, it explores science, belief, and finding your place in the universe.
- Nov. 11-15: “The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie, directed by Amanda J. Nelson. This classic murder mystery is filled with suspense, wit, and surprises as a snowstorm traps a group of strangers in a remote English guesthouse.
Cinema
The Progeny Short Film Festival will take place on Oct. 18 at the Lyric Theatre. Each year, the student-led festival showcases local and regional talent. This year’s categories include animation, documentary, experimental, Hokie short, international, and narrative. Find out more on how to submit a film to the Progeny Short Film Festival.
