Michelle Amesqua, lead housekeeper at Turner Place, passed away July 14. She was 55.

Amesqua was born in Los Angeles, California, to Nicolas and Madeline Amesqua.

She worked for the United States Postal Service and held other professional roles before finding a second home at Turner Place at Virginia Tech, where she worked for five years. She took pride in her work and cared deeply for her coworkers and the students she served, often referring to them affectionately as "her kids."

Known for her kindness, generosity, and resilience, Amesqua overcame incredible health challenges, including surviving a brain aneurysm two decades ago, a testament to her enduring strength and spirit.

Amesqua's love for her family was reflected in daily calls to her father, her pride and joy in her two sons, Jordan and Blake, and her happiness and fulfillment in the arrival of her grandson, Buckley. She deeply cherished her extended family, always remembering birthdays and staying connected with her many beloved nieces and nephews.

“Michelle always had a smile on her face and a kind compliment to give you,” said Kathaleen Carr, assistant director for Turner Place. “She was proud to be a member of the Hokie community and part of our Dining Services family, serving students and team members however she could. Michelle's bright, bubbly personality will very much be missed in Turner Place and on campus.”
