Rodney Alden Altizer, retired buildings and grounds director A for the Division of Facilities, passed away on July 18.

Altizer was born on March 11, 1939, to the late Edgar A. and Mabel Bowyer Altizer. 

Altizer dedicated his life to the service of others. He served in the U.S. Army. Later, he served the Virginia Tech community for over 25 years in the Division of Facilities.

He enjoyed reading his Bible, running, watching NASCAR, spending time with his family, and taking care of his Thunderbird. 

Altizer is survived by his wife, Linda M. Altizer; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Cathy Altizer; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Ron Maybaum; grandchildren, Caleb Altizer, Hannah Altizer, and Alaina Partin; brother, Carlos Altizer (Pat McCall); brother-in-law, Pete Whitlock; and daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Hank Partin.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dixie Thurman and Rebecca Altizer Whitlock.
