Pamplin College of Business remains the only college at Virginia Tech with a full service career services team, and that team just got bigger.

Throughout 2025, Pamplin Career Services added three career advisors to their team. Career advisors play a critical role in providing a personalized approach to undergraduate’s career development needs through one-on-one career advising sessions covering career path exploration, resume building, job search strategies, interview preparation, salary negotiation, and more.

“The data shows that students who engage with our office and with our activities early and often are successful,” said Jennifer Tortora, director of career services and employer relations. “Our team of seven is committed to guiding Pamplin undergraduates through every phase of their career journey to ensure they are prepared for long-term success.”

Some of the other services provided by Pamplin Career Services include:

  • Classroom presentations
  • Networking events
  • Career search resource guides
  • Professional development workshops

Maria Zareen joined the team in January 2025 and brings a passion for working with international students. “I'm really excited to support Pamplin students in building meaningful career paths that align with their goals and values.” Zareen said. “Whether it’s through one-on-one advising, workshops, or just being a listening ear, my goal is to help students feel confident, prepared, and set up for success beyond college. As an international student myself, I’m especially passionate about supporting the international student community in navigating their unique challenges and strengths throughout the career journey.”

Krista Davis, who joined in February 2025, said, “As a career advisor for Pamplin students, I help future business leaders turn big goals into real opportunities—from job exploration and resumes to interview prep, headshots, and salary negotiations.  I’m especially excited to highlight the value of Career Services through classroom presentations that connect academic learning to real-world careers.”

Fiona Brown joined the team in April 2025, adding that “from reviewing resumes to serving as a sounding board for students evaluating job offers, our team has the honor to support students through many key moments in their professional lives. Everyone’s career development story is unique, and I’m excited to continue walking alongside our Pamplin Hokies as they pursue the next steps in their journey.”

In addition to individual career advising, the career services office hosts multiple events. The biggest event is the annual Business Horizons Career Fair where students have the opportunity to connect with more than 150 top recruiting organizations in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Other notable events organized by the career services team include the Career Launch Student Symposium and career treks, which brings students to corporate hiring partners in regional areas. The two-day event is free for students and includes onsite company visits and a networking event.

New advisors bring fresh ideas and experience, equipping Pamplin Career Services to better help students launch successful careers. This is the first stage of a proposed expansion of the Office of Career Services to better support students. With new curriculum pending and experiential requirements planned for undergraduate students, support from alumni, donors, and corporations can help accelerate this transformation.
