Richard “Dick” Brawner Graham, retired plumber in the Division of Facilities, passed away on May 30. 

Graham was born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 30, 1934, to the late Daniel Parson Graham Sr. and Audrey Speake Graham. He was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Graham was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He also worked with Virginia Tech’s Facilities division for 25 years, retiring from the plumbing shop. Well-liked and fondly called “Deacan” by his colleagues, Graham was a popular presence at the Mechanical Services annual holiday party, including for at least 25 years after his retirement from Virginia Tech. 

Graham loved his family deeply and never missed an opportunity to enjoy their company. Described by his daughter as her “anchor,” Graham attended many school events and graduations as well as church, play, and sport activities. 

Graham is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Morris Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Faith Blankenship and Kevin; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Graham and Lori; grandchildren, Kayla Hill (Todd), Alexandra Eaton (Clint), Emilee Ratliff (Jon Luke), Brianna Amaral (Logan) Daniel Graham; great-grandchildren, Enoch, Rachab, Abby, Maddie; sister-in-law, Emily Judy Hart and Joel.

Graham is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Parson Graham, Jr.
